Mexico City trio Rey Pila have returned with a hook-filled double A-side. Our favourite of the two tracks is the impeccable ‘Friend Request’. It’s a dark slice of synth-pop that examines our complex relationship with social media via a pumping electronic soundscape filled with hooks. “I feel that nowadays there’s a thin line fading between real experiences and fantasised ones,” they say. “The way most people portray themselves online is very detached from human actions and emotions. We live in a time where many realities co-exist and many of these realities are far away from the way we really are.” Check out the band’s other single, ‘Online Soul’, which is a more dystopian, juxtaposing look at similar themes. -Dan Peeke
